Narragansett Parks & Recreation alongside Narragansett Surf Rescue and Raw Elements USA present the WATERMAN ECO-CHALLENGE 2018. July 14th will be a safe, fun filled day at the beach packed with a 3-mile open ocean paddle race, 1-mile ocean swim race, interactive sponsor tents with giveaways, raffles and ocean/sun safety education.

2017 Waterman Eco-Challenge has raised $6,500.00 for the Janice Causey Memorial Art Scholarship!

The 7th Annual Waterman Eco-Challenge, in honor of Janice ‘Mama C’ Causey, was an incredible day! The event was epic - our largest turnout ever - 249 total competitors!  We had 96 paddlers & lifeguard kayakers and just over 150 swimmers!  The conditions for the swim were absolutely perfect - no wind and pure surface glass.  The Liquid Space team had an incredible showing with youngsters from 11 years old crushing the mile swim!  There was a fun little wave all day making the swim finish and paddle start / finishes exciting.  We had just about the best conditions we’ve ever had for the paddle - wind was light north to start and swung around light southwest for a nice downwind on the home stretch. Though most of the day was overcast, the sun finally came out strong during the awards ceremony!

I truly love this community and to see this event grow from 38 competitors in 2011 to 249 in 2017 and experience all the excitement and unreal feedback from everyone - its incredibly rewarding to say the least.  Knowing that we are able to work with the Causey family to continue to support and provide art scholarships to young students in Mama C’s name feels like a gift to me that Im grateful to be a part of. Thanks to all of you for being a huge part of that.
The competition in the paddle, the swim and for the Ultimate Waterman/Woman just keeps getting better and better!!

We are already excited and have begun to discuss some new additions to the event in 2018!

I would just like to truly extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you in our community for coming out, Narragansett Parks & Rec., Narragansett Town Beach Management & Staff, Environmental Day, Narragansett Fire Dept., The Causey Family and all of our sponsors, especially our contributing sponsors - Raw Elements, South County Orthopedics, Kettlebottom Outfitters, Narrow River Kayaks, Calvino Law, Olukai, Kaenon, Nuts n’ More, Paleonola, Lightspeed Outdoors, IMSY, lululemon, World Skin Project, Evolve Apothecary, Sweenors Chocolates and to all our product sponsors (all shown below)!  I cant express how much time, effort and planning the entire Narragansett Surf Rescue & Raw Elements team put in to ensure the water safety operation and unique experience that is Waterman Eco-Challenge.
