The 7th Annual Waterman Eco-Challenge, in honor of Janice ‘Mama C’ Causey, was an incredible day! The event was epic - our largest turnout ever - 249 total competitors! We had 96 paddlers & lifeguard kayakers and just over 150 swimmers! The conditions for the swim were absolutely perfect - no wind and pure surface glass. The Liquid Space team had an incredible showing with youngsters from 11 years old crushing the mile swim! There was a fun little wave all day making the swim finish and paddle start / finishes exciting. We had just about the best conditions we’ve ever had for the paddle - wind was light north to start and swung around light southwest for a nice downwind on the home stretch. Though most of the day was overcast, the sun finally came out strong during the awards ceremony!
I truly love this community and to see this event grow from 38 competitors in 2011 to 249 in 2017 and experience all the excitement and unreal feedback from everyone - its incredibly rewarding to say the least. Knowing that we are able to work with the Causey family to continue to support and provide art scholarships to young students in Mama C’s name feels like a gift to me that Im grateful to be a part of. Thanks to all of you for being a huge part of that.
The competition in the paddle, the swim and for the Ultimate Waterman/Woman just keeps getting better and better!!
We are already excited and have begun to discuss some new additions to the event in 2018!
